Mourning Brooch

A mourning hair brooch made in a very conservative style, featuring a thick lock of hair tied in an ornate knot with visible ends yet so clear start or finish.

Its construction is fitting for its age, with thin gold bezels holding in the crystals, and an old style pin and catch on the back. All the metal components are made in a low carat gold, somewhere in the 8-10 Karat range. 

A memento of a deceased relative, this relative would likely have been young enough to still have colorful hair, whilst having it fully grown out.Although it may seem morbid, this style of jewelry was common for grieving family members to remember a loved one, before the times of home photography.

Mostly the weight of the crystal, and sold for its collectibility and history it is a subtle addition to an outfit, or a piece for a memento mori collection.
