FAQ

The majority of the pieces offered by Atelier Vespoint are decades old, but have been maintained to last for many more.

To ensure they stay in this condition The Atelier lists its "Best Practices" and replies to FAQ's below.

Is the watch waterproof?

Short answer, No

Many vintage timepieces may have wording such as "Water Resistant" or a Meter rating next to "Water Resist".

Here at Atelier Vespoint, it is best to assume a vintage watch is not water tight.

Even if the piece is marked water resistant, it is heavily advised it is not worn in the shower, pool, bath or in wet environments.

Pieces with known and tested water resistance will be listed as such by Atelier Vespoint in the item description and is likely reserved to modern offerings.

*Some exceptions may apply, please reach out with any inquiries*

How should I clean my piece?

A polishing cloth is normally recommended.

For watches, a polishing cloth is normally best for wiping away smudges and debris from a watch, avoiding the need for water (see above).

For jewels and curios that are a known metal, (stamped or marked) dish soap, warm water and a soft bristle toothbrush are suitable to clean debris from the piece.

Once this is done, dry thoroughly with a soft towel before putting on or back into use.

Why is the watch not running?

It likely needs to be wound.

It is recommended watches are wound daily and the time checked.

Wind away from yourself, or when looking directly at the crown, clockwise.

Except for a few examples, Atelier Vespoint offers mechanical watches, both manual wound, and automatic.

These two styles of movements require the watch to be wound on a regular basis. In most cases this is done using the crown to wind the watch.

  • Manual wind watches should be gently wound until there is resistance, winding is now completed
  • Diver watches may require the crown to be unscrewed and not pulled directly out
  • Automatic pieces should be hand wound, but also use repetitive movement of the watch i.e. movement of arms while walking, or brushing teeth
  • Automatics can be put in a "Watch Winder" box, but results may vary

Wound regularly, a mechanical watch should not lose time, or stop running.

*If properly wound and still not running reach out to info@ateliervespoint.com!*

Can I return my purchase?

Probably not.

A vast majority of the pieces at Atelier Vespoint are vintage, some being over 100 years old. Even if kept properly, they will show signs of wear or have cosmetic imperfections that come with time. Due to this, many pieces are sold as is and cannot be returned.

It is important to read the detailed item description, and to take a close look at the pictures before buying.  Every piece listed is well photographed, and well described. If you see something in the pictures or descriptions, or don’t see something and you have a question about it, please reach out before purchasing the piece.

For more information about returns please refer to the return policy located at ateliervespoint.com/policies/refund-policy.

*Some pieces have warrantees, which are different from return eligibility, please see warrantee section for more info.*

Is there a warrantee/guarantee on my piece?

There may be.

Although many pieces are sold as is, as stated above, some will come with a warrantee on their movement.

Pieces sold as "Serviced in 20XX”  have been serviced by a professional and do come with a 1 year internal warranty on the movement, starting the date it is sold.

This DOES NOT COVER:

  • Cosmetic imperfections: scratches, dings, marks left on surface of piece

  • External damage including but not limited to: crystal scratches/cracks, scratches on case/bracelet, broken stems, broken bracelets, ripped leather bands etc.

  • Damage due to misuse/negligence: overwound mainspring, broken stem, water/moisture damage, damage to calendar functions etc.

  • Acts of God: earthquake, wildfire, weather phenomena, unexplained gravitational anomalies and so on.

If your piece stops running within the warrantee window, please reach out to be informed how to proceed.

*Having a piece under warrantee does not entitle the customer to a return, only to the necessary repairs under warrantee to be done by Atelier Vespoint*
