The Movado Calendermeto is a stunning example of niche market application, with broad product development. It would most easily be described as a pocket watch, a watch with no band and a chain with fob or pin that is held in the pocket or bag.

What made them different however was their sliding shell case, and special winding mechanism.

Most Ermeto watches featured a crown and winding stem that were geared to arms connected to the outer shell. Each time the shell was opened or closed the watch would be wound, one of the first "Automatic" winding mechanisms, and pioneered by the founder of Movado.

With this innovation, a need arose for a mainspring that couldn't be overwound. Out of necessity the watchmakers at Movado invented a mainspring and barrel capable of maintaining a full wind, while not becoming overwound. This innovation would in many ways helped lead to the rise of automatic wristwatches.

Originally intended for a purse or pocket, but easily utilized as a desk clock using the fold out stand built into the back it’s extremely versatile. All calendar functions work, the correctors changing the Portuguese calendar functions and moon phase and the crown the time.

With its original radium hands and markers, two tone dial, orginal aged reptile leather cover, original newspaper print ad (last slide) and fitted signed Movado box, it is a time capsule ready for someone’s appreciation.
